Summertime and the Livin’s Easy

summertime2

I think this is the latest I’ve ever put a comic up in the week (Thursday 12:55am). This one took me forever. It’s the start of summer and if you can be, you should be outside enjoying the freedom of responsibilities as much as you can! Because school will be knockin’ at the door a lot quicker than you think.

In the Must Be This Tall world, this comic takes place on June 21st and is the entirety of the day, from sunrise to sunset. I have this fantasy of taking the entire day of the summer solstice and going on an all day adventure. This year I worked all day and it rained, so this is me living that fantasy as best I can. Maybe next year.

This is probably three of the most detailed panels I have ever drawn, all in one strip. It’s also the first time I drew faces on the parents. If you look, you may be able to see some of the details behind the cloud of smoke, from the bbq.

That’s it for this, see you next week.

Lemonade

lemonade

Thanks to G. love for easy time I had naming this week’s comic strip. I feel that this storyline is not quite over yet. I am hoping to squeeze a bit more out of the lemonade stand idea.

Do people still do this? Have you ever sat outside and slung lemonade to strangers? I know I have, right on sunset boulevard, in Cape May. Making people stop their cars on a busy street for 50 cent cups of lemonade.

One time (the only time I ever sold lemonade) we actually made, like $200. I think the majority of the money came from my dad, who was also selling Franklin Mint plates on the side. But nonetheless, a pretty profitable venture.

Here it is this week’s comic, hope you all dig.

Gimmie One Shot

minigolf

I am struggling so hard trying to think of a title for this comic. Hopefully I come up with one before I finish writing this post.

Last week, my family came to visit me and I finally got to be a tourist in Myrtle Beach. Myrtle Beach may be known for it’s golf, but it also has excellent mini-golf courses. Me and my brother hit the links.

This strip is one of those comics, where I had the idea in my head for awhile. Just kind of a general thought like “the gang should go miniature golfing”, so this is what I came up with.

Personally, I always start off strong mini golfing, but by the end, I’m so over it and ready for that ice cream, like Animal.

This one was a lot of fun to draw. It gave me the chance to draw the gang in different types of golf swaag, that I think, fits their personalities well. Plus I got to draw some fun stuff on the golf course.

Hope you guys dig it. See ya next week. Sorry I’m so late, my family stayed until Tuesday. Still trying to think of a title…

School’s Out Forever

school'soutforever

This one was so easy to name. Thank goodness. It’s 2am, I’m exhausted, so bare with me. Here is this week’s comic. My little brother’s last day of school is this Friday so I figured I would celebrate with him, by drawing this comic.

I always remember as the school year drew to a close, the atmosphere became so much more lax. It was a great feeling. The weather was starting to warm up and class work was becoming less and less you kinda just rode out the last few days on cruise control. The last day of school, for me, might as well been a holiday and this comic is how I remember  it going from first grade, all the way up to college. (Except senior year, that year was scary).

The comic has no real dialogue and the first two panels are pretty simple, but I have to say, the time I put into the last panel, is probably the same amount of time, or maybe even more, than I’ve put into some strips. I think it’s the most amount of detailed characters I’ve ever included in one panel as well. #Firsts

So here it is, this week’s new comic. And for all your guys still in school, enjoy summer break!

Pool Shark

poolshark

So, things that took me far too long with this week’s comic: the title and the last panel.

I literally spent ten minutes clicking the effect layer on and off, in Photoshop, seeing if the white lines would make it into the comic. Long story short, they made did, unless I decided to change it again before I finish writing this description.

The other thing that took too long was the title. Man, I’m not happy with it. I feel like there is definitely something that encompasses this strip better than “Pool Shark”, but I could not think of one, and wanted to get this strip up this week.

As for the comic, it is the unofficial start of summer, with memorial day last weekend. Rockstar was telling me, while we were sitting at the pool, all about the hand-stand contests she used to have with her mom, when she was younger at the pool.  It got me thinking about all the games and contest (see comic) kids play while they are in the pool and how they are usually judged and rated. The concept of children’s pool olympics came to mind, with events like holding your breath for the longest, and I ran with it.

The strip does not really have a punchline, but in my opinion each panel could stand on it’s own. It’s basically like three stand alone strips, with a common theme.

Hope you guys dig.

It’s a Plan, a Scam, a Diagram

planscame

This week’s comic comes from three separate ideas, all from different people. The first was a story I heard at my college roommate’s wedding last weekend. Apparently, the bride and her sister used to scrape cardboard pieces across the carpet, to make it appear as if it was vacuumed.

The second panel came from my little brother jacob, who asked if I could do a strip where the Must Be This Tall gang doesn’t want to eat their vegetables, because they are too full, but they still have room for dessert.

The third is probably the most random. It comes from the first episode of “Leave it to Beaver” which my brother had on this weekend. (Netflix, man.)

As soon as I heard the story at the wedding, I knew I wanted to do a strip about it. And since I already had done a strip where the gang is too full, but magically has room for dessert (Come on, Jake. Keep up. Jokes) I figured I could put them all together and this is what I got.

I think this idea seems so comical, I mean, it was in an episode of “Leave it to Beaver”. But as the Maxwell sisters proved to me at the wedding, kids do crazy things to get out of doing their chores.

Hope you all dig. See ya next week.

Lo we are not so, we’re on a Mission

weonamission

This is the real life story of how I used to get my brother to bring me things. I don’t know if any more explanation is needed other than that.

I would usually give him a report card in regards to his service and give him tips and pointers for the next mission.

Come to think of it, I used to tell my brother a lot of things and he used to kick me in the face a lot. I’m thinking about it now and I feel like I have material for the next 5 years worth of Must Be This Tall comic’s based off our interactions. Good stuff.

Hope y’all enjoy. Sorry, Mark. Kinda. But it was fun, right?

I Can Sleep

icansleep1

First off, sorry for the late post. It was a very hectic weekend, not much sleep was had. Hence, this week’s comic.

I don’t know if this is a problem that everyone can relate to, but for me, this is one of the most problematic situations when I’m sleeping. I feel like whenever I look at the clock, it’s usually only minutes before I have to wake up. And If I don’t look, well I’m sitting up for awhile just waiting for my alarm to go off.

Only once, every so often, does the final panel happen, where you look at the time and are surprised to see you have trilla more hours of sleep. It’s one of the best feelings in the world.

Anyway, that’s it from me. Hope you guys enjoys this week’s comic.

See ya next time, space cowboys

Boris the Spider in: Who are you?

whoareyou

A few weeks ago, I was standing in my kitchen. I had the door open, because it was so hot and I didn’t feel like turning on the air. While I was standing there, I noticed a giant bug just flapping around, above me. There was no way that I was going to be able to capture and remove that thing from my house, so I just continued on with my life.

That instant brought to mind this question: What do you do when there is a bug in your house? I decided to save the thought and make it a comic eventually. And eventually has arrived.

It’s also topical because I spent a good amount of time trying to rescue a tree frog that had stowed away into my car. I got him out after it was in my car all day. It only took me crawling around in my work clothes, in the rain, but it was worth it.

So, after all that background, which character are you?

Hope you guys dig it. Talk to you later.
